Honestly, sometimes I window shop for things that I'm 100% not going to buy. I live quite close to the beach, a quick bus ride actually could get me there without having to deal with parking. But the only thing I don't like to do at the beach is actually get in the water. Hence, bathing suits aren't really a priority for me. I keep a couple of tankinis (very non-flattering) around which I use very occasionally but other than that, I tend to not use any swimwear.

Anyway, I had the thought that maybe if I invested in a bikini I actually like wearing I would venture out to the beach more often. Maybe finally develop an actual tan. Who knows. In any case, here are some of the swimwear options I've found (and actually liked!) so far.

J.Crew

If I had to pick a favorite I'd say this one is it. Maybe I should have left the best for last but I was too excited about it. The color is perfect and I love the ties at the top. I don't generally shop at J.Crew (a bit too preppy and a lot too pricey for me) but their swimwear options tend to be quite good and decently priced, I've noticed. The next two are J.Crew as well!

J.Crew

There's not much to say about this one except its very adorable. It's not frilly or pink but it seems quite feminine to me. I love the small scale of the print as well. It's a good alternative to the blue one if you're not into pastel colors or bows.

J.Crew

This one is a little more girly I think, because of the polka dots. I love a high-waisted bikini brief and it can be difficult to fin one that doesn't involve cherry prints and large frills. The top looks quite convenient as well, in terms of support.

Urban Outfitters

I was (am?) going through a very 70s phase recently when I found this one piece (and the one below) from Urban Outfitters. It has very high ratings on their website and also looks cute in person. I don't think I could personally pull this off, solely because of the deep plunge. I'm not sure how secure I'd feel running around without worrying about a wardrobe malfunction. I'm obsessed with the white trim though (and the flower detail, A+ in my book!).

Urban Outfitters

Again, in terms of function I'm not too sure these Urban Outfitters pieces are too practical but they certainly work to portray a particular look. I think they'd be great for more leisurely beach activities, as long as you don't mind the tan lines.

ASOS

Finally, here is a high-waisted bikini bottom. Just the bottom. Like I mentioned before, it's difficult to find them sometimes so I thought I'd share this reasonably-priced one I found on ASOS. I think they look amazing with tied up button down shirts for protecting the shoulders from the sun.

As you can see, I'm not a fan (at all!) of neon colors, lots of straps, or crazy patterns. I quite enjoy the more classic silhouettes and subtle colors. A vintage touch is just the thing as well. Maybe one of these days I'll pull the trigger on a suit and finally go out to the beach for some actual beach activity, instead of for the shops. Maybe.
